    Field Service Technician II (Oklahoma City, OK)

    Candidate must possess a complete understanding of electric motor (AC and DC) operation and the associated controls. Technician will proficiently perform installation, alignment, and balancing of rotating equipment in a site-specific field location with limited supervision.

    Primary Responsibilities:

    • Complete proficiency performing installation, alignment and balancing of rotating equipment.
    • Work with crew lead and junior employees to provide training and supervision.
    • Proficient use of micrometers and calipers to measure critical machine fits.
    • Understand sleeve bearing and ball bearing operation.
    • Ability to teardown, clean and assemble mechanical apparatus and components.
    • Install new or modified equipment at customer’s facility to insure full functionality according to specifications with limited supervision.
    • Provide on-site technical assistance to troubleshoot and repair equipment.
    • Provide communication link between the customer and the company to insure that effective service is provided to the customer.
    • Analyzes inspection findings to determine source of problem and recommends repair, replacement, or other corrective action.
    • Conduct safe operations of the equipment and demonstrates skills to trainees, including both team members and customers with limited supervision.

    Supervisory Responsibilities:

    This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

    Additional Responsibilities:

    • Must be willing to travel up to 80% of the time.
    • Ability to work in a TEAM environment.
    • Knowledge of lockout/tag out, confined space, electrical safety, and OSHA standards.
    • Ability to manage multiple priorities, effective team player.
    • Perform preventive and predictable maintenance activities on all company equipment.

    Knowledge and Skill Requirements:

    • Basic reading, writing, and arithmetic skills are required. This is normally acquired through a high school diploma or equivalent.
    • Minimum of 3 years of related experience is required.
    • Must be able to pass various drug screens required by customers and DOT.
    • Must have a valid driver’s license with a safe driving record.
    • Must possess own assorted hand tools to perform the related tasks
    • Ability to install, align and balance rotating equipment.
    • Ability to identify potential maintenance problems, and recommend potential solutions.
    • Ability to interpret blueprints and drawings.
    • Ability to read and interpret electrical wiring and schematic diagrams and connections.
    • Ability to reading and interpret repair instructions.
    • Ability to read and understand various schematics.
    • Computer Literate

    Working Conditions:

    Working conditions are normally in an outdoor environment with exposure to extreme heat and cold.

    Physical/mental requirements:

    • Must be able to perform work in an outdoor environment.
    • Regularly required to stand for long periods of time on a daily basis.
    • Frequently lift and or move up to 50 pounds daily.
    • Perform light lifting of 14-45 pounds on a daily basis.
    • Perform light carrying on a weekly basis of 14-45 pounds.
    • Perform straight pulling, pushing, and pulling hand over hand on a daily basis.

    Education and/or Experience:

    High school diploma or general education degree (GED), minimum of 3 years direct hands on related experience in repairing and maintaining electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and mechanical systems or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.

    Language Skills:

    Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.  Ability to write simple correspondence.  Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to internal and external customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

    Mathematical Skills:

    Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.  Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

    Reasoning Ability:

    OMD Repair Tech (Oklahoma City, OK)

    Southwest Electric Co. in Oklahoma City, OK. is looking for an experienced Electric Motor Mechanic to join our family-owned and operated shop. The ideal candidate needs to understand how to test, teardown and repair a variety of industrial AC/DC motors. If you have experience utilizing a megger, high potential tester and balancing rotors and armatures feel free to apply and join our amazing family-oriented company.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities: include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

    • Tests coils, armatures, stator, rotor, and field coils for continuity, shorts, and grounds and insulation resistance.
    • Ability to utilize Hi-Pot, Fluke, Megger (insulation resistance), volt & amp meters to test and record critical measurements with micrometers, calipers, etc.
    • Ability to balance rotors and armatures in stand balancer. Balance using portable balance equipment to perform trim balancing either on-site or in shop.
    • Ability to operate vacuum ovens, Baker Surge tester, Core tester, hydraulic bearing pullers, high voltage test panels for testing running motors.


    • HS Diploma or GED required and 2 years mechanical training at a Technology center.
    • 4+ years related experience and/or training equivalent combination.

    Motor Winder (Oklahoma City, OK)


    Provide winding support on various kinds of electric motors based off wiring diagrams and repair orders. Manufacture and install from wound and random wound coils on AC/DC electric motors, generators, armatures, rotors, stator coils and related electrical components.


    • Reviews wiring diagrams and repair order or examine sample coil to ascertain type and size of wire specified, and type, size, length, circumference, of coil to be wound.
    • Installs coils in stator.
    • Cut wire to form leads.
    • Connect coils by means of silver soldering.
    • Test coils for winding continuity.
    • Install leads to windings by means of hydraulic crimping.
    • Completes Process Control Records completely and accurately.
    • Safely operate various overhead cranes, forklifts, and various handheld power tools.
    • Support supervisors with various other plant assignments as needed.
    • Observe all safety procedures and use of proper protective gear.


    • Knowledge of basic electric concepts, hydraulics, and electrical and mechanical systems.
    • Must demonstrate troubleshooting skills utilizing Megger, Fluke, Ohm, Hi-Pot and Multimeter equipment, and test instruments.
    • Ability to read charts, diagrams, drawings, and blueprints.

    Education and/or Experience:

    • High School Diploma or GED REQUIRED
    • 2+ years’ experience winding, servicing, and repairing industrial electric motors.
    • A minimum of 2 to 3 years’ experience in electrical/mechanical repair, motor shop servicing or completion of an accredited EASA or military training program.
    • Ability to work independently or as part of a team as applicable.
    • Requires diagnostic troubleshooting, disassembly, measurement, data collection, failure analysis, repair, re-assembly, testing and safety abilities at a career skilled tradesman level.


    Sr. Substation Technician (Tulsa, OK or Nashville, TN)


    • Ability to perform all aspects of substation services (repair, processing & testing) and demonstrate an exceptional understanding of transformers, construction operation and the associated controls.
    • Ability to perform in shop and field transformer testing for Power Factor, Excitation and resistance readings per NETA/ANSI Standards and maintain operational mechanical systems including pump operations, valve operations and oil processing units.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned:

    • Troubleshoot and test transformers using various methods and testing equipment including partial installation of transformer components.
    • Verify repairs using various start-up testing procedures.
    • Conduct acceptance testing and preventative maintenance in accordance with the published testing procedures.
    • Operate specialized test equipment including but not limited to: Power Factor Tester (DOBLE), Megohmmeters, AC/DC volt-ohm-millimeters, various kinds of hand-held power and non-power tools, etc.
    • Ability to make electrical measurements, mechanical adjustments, assemble and disassemble parts/equipment correctly.
    • Read and understand instruction manuals.
    • Maintain a professional attitude when representing the company during phone or personal contact with outside vendors, customers or service providers etc.
    • Observe all safety procedures and use proper protective gear.
    • Complete required paperwork for each job accurately and on a timely basis.
    • Perform other skilled or non-skilled duties as directed by supervisor.
    • Must be willing and able to travel on overnight, multi-day, out of town jobs.
    • Must be willing and able to work regular overtime including nights, weekends and some holidays.           
    • Acceptance and Diagnostic Testing, Substation Commissioning Testing, Relay Calibration
    • Doble, Transformer Turns ratio, Megger, Etc.

    Education and/or Experience:

    • High School Diploma or GED REQUIRED
    • Associates Degree in Industrial Maintenance, Electrical/Electronic Technology preferred.
    • 10+ years of commensurate Substation work experience preferred.
    • Electrical theory education and/or related experience is required.
    • Military experience is a plus.
    • Ability to pass a pre-employment DOT drug screen, and physical.
    • Complete a satisfactory nationwide criminal background check.
    • Must have a valid driver’s license and a clean driving record.
    • Ability to lift 50 + lbs., climb ladders, stand for extended periods of time.

    Sr. Protective Relay & Controls Technician (Nashville, TN)


    • Conduct commissioning, testing, maintenance and repair of complex protective relaying schemes, metering remote control and data systems and capacitor control in generation, transmission and distribution substation environments. To facilitate the retrofit, upgrade, and replacement projects for electrical controls, SCADA, DCS and Power System Protection Equipment.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned:

    • Testing of Electro-mechanical, Numerical and Microprocessor based Protective Relays and control devices.
    • Perform installation, commissioning, testing and maintenance of protective relaying equipment, relaying schemes, DFR equipment, SCADA systems, distribution automation systems and associated communication equipment
    • Test over current/voltage, Directional, Distance, Impedance, Sync Check, Loss of field, reverse power, Multifunction relays etc.
    • Perform function testing of substation control circuits on relay panel, transformers & circuit breaker change outs.
    • Conduct differential and distance relay testing.
    • Assist in developing written standard commissioning, testing and maintenance procedures for protective relaying, DFR’s, RTU’s, IED’s, Distribution Automation and associated communication systems.
    • Interpreting customer and sales submitted technical documents, quotations, and service requests and applying that data directly to the quoted task at hand.
    • Communicating technical information clearly and concisely to management and customers.
    • Travel to job locations, testing, commissioning, troubleshooting, and properly applying pertinent technical and safety standards to the assigned work. i.e. (IEEE, NETA, NEMA, NEC).
    • Creating test reports and summaries of work completed.
    • Assist in training service technicians in basic protective relay and control systems.
    • Must be willing and able to travel on overnight, multi-day, out of town jobs.
    • Must be willing and able to work regular overtime including nights, weekends and some holidays.

    Education and/or Experience:

    • High School Diploma or GED REQUIRED
    • Trade/Tech school with 10 years of proven OTJ experience in Power Systems Protection and Controls.
    • Or: Equivalent Military training plus proven OTJ experience in Power Systems Protection and Controls.
    • Or: University/College 2-4 year Engineering Technology plus related Power System Protection experience.
    • Ability to pass a pre-employment DOT drug screen, and physical.
    • Complete a satisfactory nationwide criminal background check.
    • Must have a valid driver’s license and a clean driving record.
    • Ability to lift 50 + lbs., climb ladders, stand for extended periods of time.
