Summary

To Prep and paint all types, shapes and sizes of materials using procedures and times specified by supervisor.

Responsibilities

  • Preparation of all bare metals for painting.
  • Acid wash metal, the metal must first be wiped free of oil using xylene thinner or a similar product. After the metal is oil free, the acid wash solution is to be applied with a sponge using the directions printed on the container.
  • Pre-painting inspection to locate flaws in the metal that may need dressed up by DA sanding or filling with glazing compound or body putty.
  • Previously painted surfaces will be DA standard smooth, wiped clean with xylene or similar product using the procedures set forth by supervisor prior to pre-paint inspection.
  • Mixing and application of primer paint will be done using the Zahn cup and the procedures set forth by the supervisor to reach a 25 to 35 second viscosity.
  • Final paint mixing and application after pre-paint inspection using the Zahn cup to reach a 25 to 35 second viscosities.
  • The Zahn cup is used to test the viscosity of the paint. This is done by timing the length of time needed for a full Zahn cup of paint to pass through the hole in the bottom of the cup as a solid stream of paint. Stop timing when the stream breaks up. The use of the Zahn cup will be used as directed by the foreperson to meet the 25 to 35 second viscosity needed.
  • The materials used will be listed on a pink stockroom card, and the card will be handed in at the stockroom at the time the materials are removed from the stockroom.
  • Proper maintenance, cleaning and storage of all paint equipment are essential.

Requirements

  • Basic reading, writing, and arithmetic skills are required. This is normally acquired through a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Duties require verbal and written communication skills.
  • Reading and interpreting nameplates and engineering instructions.
  • Must be willing to operate overhead crane, forklift and other lifting devices as required by supervisor.

Qualifications:

  • Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen, and physical.
  • Complete a satisfactory nationwide criminal background check.
  • Ability to lift 50 + lbs, climb ladders, stand for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to read and comprehend Standard Operating Procedures.

Education and/or Experience:

  • High School Diploma or GED REQUIRED
  • 1 to 2 years of industrial painting preferred

Language Skills:

  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to write simple correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to internal and external customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

Mathematical Skills:

  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

Reasoning Ability:

  • Reads and interprets routine or printed material such as basic blueprints, charts, diagrams, maps or instructional material.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed involved written or oral instructions.
