Field Service Technician I

Summary

Candidate must possess a basic understanding of electric motor (AC and DC) operation and the associated controls. Technician will perform installation, alignment, and balancing of rotating equipment in a site specific field location with supervision.

Responsibilities

  • Basic proficiency performing installation, alignment and balancing of rotating equipment.
  • Proficient use of micrometers and calipers to measure critical machine fits.
  • Understand sleeve bearing and ball bearing operation
  • Ability to teardown, clean, and assemble mechanical apparatus and components with supervision
  • Install new or modified equipment at customer’s facility to insure full functionality according to specifications with supervision.
  • Knowledge of and capable to assist with basic repairs, testing, and troubleshooting of electric motors with supervision.
  • Conduct safe operations of the equipment and demonstrates skills to trainees, including both team members and customers with supervision.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Must be willing to travel up to 80% of the time.
  • Ability to work in a TEAM environment.
  • Knowledge of lockout/tag out, confined space, electrical safety and OSHA standards.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, effective team player.
  • Perform preventive and predictable maintenance activities on all company equipment.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Basic reading, writing, and arithmetic skills are required. This is normally acquired through a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 2 years related experience required.
  • Must be able to pass various drug screens required by customers and DOT.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license with a safe driving record.
  • Must possess own assorted hand tools to perform the related tasks
  • Ability to install, align and balance rotating equipment.
  • Ability to identify potential maintenance problems, and recommend potential solutions.
  • Ability to interpret blue prints and drawings.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical wiring and schematic diagrams and connections.
  • Ability to reading and interpret repair instructions.
  • Ability to read and understand various schematics.

Working Conditions:

Working conditions are frequently in an outdoor environment with exposure to extreme heat and cold.

Physical/mental requirements:

  • Must be able to perform work in an outdoor environment.
  • Regularly required to stand for long periods of time on a daily basis.
  • Frequently lift and or move up to 50 pounds daily.
  • Perform light lifting of 14-45 pounds on a daily basis.
  • Perform light carrying on a weekly basis of 14-45 pounds.
  • Perform straight pulling, pushing, and pulling hand over hand on a daily basis.
  • Must be able to climb a ladder, and operate various man lifts.
  • Occasionally required to walk, sit, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl in or outside of confined spaces.
  • Ladder climbing, bending, and squatting on a daily basis.
  • Specific vision abilities are close, distance, color, and peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

Education and/or Experience:

High school diploma or general education degree (GED), minimum of 2 years direct hands on related experience in repairing and maintaining electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and mechanical systems or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.

Language Skills:

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.  Ability to write simple correspondence.  Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to internal and external customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

Mathematical Skills:

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.  Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

Reasoning Ability:

Reads and interprets routine or printed material such as basic blueprints, charts, diagrams, maps or instructional material.  Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed involved written or oral instructions.  Must have strong problem solving skills.
